Leicester Beer Festival touches down from Wednesday 13th to Saturday 16th March 2019 at the Haymarket Theatre, right in the heart of the city centre.

Our move to the Haymarket last year was hugely successful, enabling us to provide bigger and better facilities and an improved festival environment. We have taken onboard valuable customer feedback and plan to be even better this year!

The Haymarket Theatre is a well known city centre landmark building but if you need a map, click here. Access is available via the staircase on Belgrave Gate or via the lifts in the middle of the Haymarket Shopping Centre.

Our Ales and Ciders

Leicester Beer Festival is one of the major events in the real ale calendar, featuring over 230 different ales served straight from the cask.  Many come from local microbreweries plus other new and small breweries from across the country.  We have a full range of beer styles including Milds, Bitters, Golden Ales, IPA's, Stouts, Porters and Fruit Beers. We will also have a keykeg craft ale bar and a real cider bar with a range of 35 traditional ciders and perries.

Our main Festival supporter is Everards of Leicestershire, who return with their pop up pub, serving five of their ales, including two seasonal specials. "People's Captain" is a 5% ABV milk stout brewed Leicester Tigers prop Greg Bateman.  "Suffragette" is a 3.5% ABV pale ale brewed as a tribute to Leicester suffragette Alice Hawkins, whose statue can be seen in Leicester market.

We will again be having a bottled continental and UK craft beers bar, provided by well known Leicester beer shop Brewklopedia.  A
lso back this year will be the popular Travelling Juniper Berries speciality Gin and Prosecco bar, provided by our friends at the Black Horse in Aylestone, featuring around 50 gins, many from local independent producers.

Festival Theme & Glass

Our theme this year commemorates the 50th anniversary of man's first steps on the moon.  The Apollo 11 mission took Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the moon's surface, landing on 24th July 1969, and is widely remembered for Armstrong's famous "One small step....." speech.  Leicester is of course home to the National Space Centre, which houses two rockets in a 42 metre tower amongst it's many other exciting exhibits.  Leicester University has also been involved with the space programme for over 50 years.

The festival glass will feature our commemorative logo, shown left, and will be available in half pint tankards marked at 1/3 and 1/2 pint measures, and pints straight glasses lined at 1/3, 1/2 and 1 pint, which will be priced at £3.00.  This is refundable when you have finished as long as the glass is not damaged.  They do make great souvenirs to take home though! You can also bring your own glass to use but it must be government or CE stamped and preferably lined.

Festival Special Brews

We are arranging some interestingly named one-off brews with our local breweries in connection with our moon landing theme.  We don't have beers that have been re-badged or renamed for our festival, so all of our festival specials are genuine first time brews.

LocAle Bar

Leicester Beer Festival supports our local breweries. Our dedicated LocAle bar features beers many East Midlands breweries, in in one handy place!.

Festival Food
The festival will feature English food such as our famous local Stilton cobs, speciality local pork pies, sausage rolls, nuts, pork scratchings etc.  Leicester Beer Festival is also well known for it's curries to help make the beers go down a treat.

Entertainment
We will host Leicester Morrismen on the Wednesday evening and Anstey Morrismen on Saturday. On Friday evening Leicester Ukulele band will entertain with sing-a-long songs. We are hoping to screen the Six Nations Rugby matches in the "Studio" theatre on Saturday.

Join CAMRA at the Beer Festival

If you are not already a member, you can always join CAMRA at the festival.  As well as a package of benefits in joining the biggest consumer group in Europe, we will also give you some free beer !

Advertising

Our Beer Festival Programme will be read by over 5000 people.  We offer reasonable advertising rates, particularly to breweries and publicans, so contact us if you would like to publicise your business.  Please display our festival poster at your local pub or workplace.

We need a hand - be a Festival Maker !

We cannot run the beer festival without the help of an army of over 100 volunteers across the duration of the event.  We start on the previous weekend, preparing for and receiving deliveries, over 240 casks! We also need to build the bars and stillage to then enable us to get the beers ready to serve. Once we open on the Wednesday we need volunteers to serve beer & cider to customers, together with a whole host of other jobs that need doing.

It's a fun experience and you'll meet great people, do new things, and adds to your CV. Plus we reward you with beer tokens and food. We will give you a Health and Safety briefing and training is given if required.  We have loads of jobs that need doing, so if you don't fancy working behind a bar we can find something for you such as glasses, admissions, food etc.

*****Sorry, online staffing applications have now closed. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered*****

Pub Events
A number of Leicester pubs will be holding events around the same time as our beer festival, giving extra reasons to come to the city.  Details will appear here as soon as we have them.
