The nomination process and rules for 2023 were as follows:

    • Any Leicester CAMRA member may nominate a total of 8 pubs in 4 categories: City Pub, Country Pub, Cider Pub and Club.
    • Members may nominate 6 pubs (three for city, three for country), 1 cider pub and 1 club.
    • Members are asked if they wish to join the judging panel. This panel will be independent of the branch committee.
    • City and Country pubs are ranked GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE.
    • Nominations need to be received by the deadline.
    • Only one nomination form per member is allowed. Multiple submissions are discarded and only the first received processed.

The committee shall collate all entries and check their eligibility: multiple submissions or ambiguous entries will not be counted.
All pubs in each of the categories are given points that are multiplied by the number of valid entries. City and country entries are weighted as follows:

The panel are only given a shortlist of pubs to judge, however, the scores of the pubs shortlisted will not be made available to the panel. The judging panel shall then survey these shortlisted pubs and judge them in line with National CAMRA Pub of the Year Guidelines. These can be found here. Members of the Leicester branch committee shall not participate in or otherwise influence the judging process, although they may help organise and attend survey trips. In the event of there arising a potential conflict of interest between a panel member and the pub/club (or pubs/clubs) to be judged, that member is expected to declare such conflict of interest and to abstain from judging that (or these) particular pub(s)/club(s).
  4. FINAL COLLATION & AWARDS
Following the completion of the survey of all shortlisted pubs/clubs, the committee shall determine, from the final scores arrived at by the judging panel, the winners of the branch competition and arrange for presentation of the awards later in the year:
